Asian handicap on SBOBET: how the lines work (unofficial guide)
This is an unofficial explainer. sbobetdesk.com is an independent information site; it is not run by SBOBET, it does not take bets, it does not hold money, and it has no betting slip or sign-up form. It explains how Asian handicap lines work in general, using made-up matches.
Checked 2026-10-29. Examples on this page are invented for illustration and show no prices. Anything about how SBOBET applies these rules stays pending verification against the operator’s own published text; see the structure summary on Sports Betting Rules.
What Asian handicap is
Asian handicap evens out a match between two teams of different strength. Instead of three outcomes (home win, draw, away win), it gives one side a head start in goals and settles the match as if the score had been adjusted by that amount. A minus sign shows the side that gives the start. A plus sign shows the side that receives it. The two sides mirror each other: Team A at −0.5 means Team B at +0.5.
The start can be zero, a half, a whole goal, or a quarter, and the possible results change with it. In every example below, Team A is the stronger side, Team B the weaker, and both are fictional.
Level line (0, sometimes called “draw no bet”)
A line of 0 means no start; the real score decides. If you picked Team A and Team A wins, the pick wins. If Team A loses, the pick loses. If the match is drawn, there is no winner on this line, so the stake is returned; this is usually called a push or a void result.
That is why it is compared to “draw no bet”: the draw is taken out, and only a win or a loss decides it.
Half-goal lines
A line of −0.5 asks Team A to give up half a goal, so a draw is impossible once the start is applied. Team A at −0.5 wins only if Team A wins the match by any margin. A draw or a Team A defeat means the pick loses.
The other side of the same line is Team B at +0.5. Team B at +0.5 wins if Team B wins the match or the match is drawn, and loses only if Team A wins. Half-goal lines have exactly two outcomes and never return the stake.
Whole-goal lines
A line of −1 asks Team A to give up one full goal, so the margin matters:
- Team A wins by two goals or more: Team A at −1 wins.
- Team A wins by exactly one goal: once the goal is taken off, the adjusted score is level, so the stake is returned (a push).
- The match is drawn or Team B wins: Team A at −1 loses.
From Team B’s side, +1 is the mirror. Team B at +1 wins if Team B wins or the match is drawn, gets the stake back if Team A wins by exactly one goal, and loses if Team A wins by two or more. On any whole-goal line, when the real margin equals the start, the stake comes back.
Quarter (split) lines
A quarter line, such as −0.25 or −0.75, is usually explained as splitting the stake into two equal halves, each placed on one of the two nearest lines and settled separately. That is why a quarter line can end in a “half win” or a “half loss.”
Team A at −0.25 is half on the level line (0) and half on −0.5:
- Team A wins: both halves win, so the whole pick wins.
- Draw: the half on 0 is returned and the half on −0.5 loses. This is a half loss.
- Team B wins: both halves lose.
The mirror, Team B at +0.25, is half on 0 and half on +0.5. A draw returns one half and wins the other, which is a half win.
Team A at −0.75 is half on −0.5 and half on −1:
- Team A wins by two goals or more: both halves win.
- Team A wins by exactly one goal: the half on −0.5 wins and the half on −1 is returned. This is a half win.
- Draw or Team B wins: both halves lose.
The mirror, Team B at +0.75, is half on +0.5 and half on +1. If Team A wins by exactly one goal, one half loses and the other is returned, which is a half loss. A quarter line may also be printed as the two lines it sits between (for example “0, 0.5”); how a given product prints them is not confirmed here.
How this differs from 1X2
A 1X2 market has three outcomes: home win (1), draw (X), and away win (2). Asian handicap, by contrast, removes the draw or turns it into a refund or a half result, so each line has two sides.
Neither format is better or more likely to pay, and this desk does not suggest which one to use. Both names appear in the bet-type list summarised on Sports Betting Rules; how each one is settled on the operator’s product is pending verification.
What SBOBET’s own rules decide — pending verification
The operator’s own rules decide how Asian handicap actually works on its product, and this desk has not checked those details. Read the operator’s published rules, summarised in structure on Sports Betting Rules, before relying on any of these:
- Whether a full-time market counts extra time or penalty shoot-outs: pending verification.
- How abandoned, postponed, or rescheduled matches are settled: pending verification.
- For in-play markets, whether the handicap applies to the whole match or only to goals scored after the pick is accepted: pending verification.
- How quarter lines are displayed and how a half result is paid out: pending verification.
- Which odds display types apply to Asian handicap markets: the rules page lists several types by name; how they apply here is pending verification.
Where this page and the operator’s published rules differ, the published rules apply. This desk cannot settle disputes.
What this desk will not do
- Publish odds, prices, or lines for any real match.
- Give tips, picks, “sure wins,” or say which side of a line to take.
- Take bets, hold money, or offer a betting slip, account, or sign-up link. See Deposit and withdrawal.
- Promise returns, quote payout amounts, or describe any system as profitable.
- Explain how to reach a site that is restricted where you live.
Paid or “guaranteed” handicap picks sent in a chat are a warning sign. See Agents and middlemen and Before you open an account.
Responsible use
Over 18s only (18+). Betting may be illegal or restricted where you live; check local law first, as set out on Age and access.
